Pipes, vents, ducts, lines, holes, etc.

This is the kind of stuff Dave is working on. Water lines, Gas lines, heat ducts and vents, putting holes in floors and walls for vents and pipes etc.

It takes a long time to do by yourself, but he says it's just easier for him to do it than to have me help. (sigh)

He explains it all to me and I'm baffled. Look at all those wires in the box and at the top.

Then he tells me what this and that is for and where it will go,

and he even shows me how to turn things off and on,

but I'm just glad he is a perfectionist when it comes to this stuff, and he labels everything!

And the good news, Dave bought some of that denim insulation for me to try. See how they are using it with their bare hands? No masks, no gloves, on 100 degree days. No itching or dripping sweat onto my mask and fogging up safety glasses! WOOHOO! Dad will love this! He helps me with insulation and I get on him about wearing safety stuff.

That's what's going on at the house.

We have water!

A week ago Monday, we received a phone call early in the morning, on our first day of vacation. The drilling company would like to change our scheduled drilling time to dig a well. They wanted to start that morning.

This is what I saw by the time I got there.

They were already set up and digging a hole.

I don't know what all this stuff is...

but they worked together very well. They hardly had to talk to each other, they each just knew what needed to be done and did it.

I see why we couldn't have the well installed below any trees.

After digging 120 - 140 feet....

they started installing these pvc pipes. He's cleaning the ends so the glue will adhere.

They actually hit water at around 75 feet, but our contract said they had to hit limestone, not gravel. A neighbor's well was at 75 feet and he's having problems now.

They put the pipe in the hole,

one by one,

gluing them together. Seems simple really.

Sure looks different than the old days where they had a brick well and a bucket on a rope!

They came back the next day to install the pump and waterline that goes into the house.

The inside work isn't near as interesting as the outside.

This guy is pulling in the water line, but Dave did all of the inside electrical and worked with them the second day. Other wise we would have had to hire an electrician too.

And after they left, he enclosed this wire inside another pvc pipe so it wouldn't be hanging there. It looks a lot nicer. I forgot to get a picture of it.

So when I got there last Tuesday, they had started tearing up the yard, trenching in the water line.

It was a bit unnerving for us, with them being this close to our foundation and digging with machinery.

This pump is connected to the unit inside the house.

Note to self...

Do NOT park on back of property when trenching is going on

if you plan on leaving anytime soon.

We had them connect to an area in our yard where we plan on having a garden.

and it works!!! We have water!

bye bye

big trucks.

Now we have another mess to contend with...

{sigh}

HELP!

Sweet huh?

I did this...it's how I'm going to empty the paint roller from now on. Leavin' my Shug big ole' hearts.

Ok - Help us decide. This is the trim for the garage. This is the skinny trim...

This is the wider trim.

They both look pretty good. Which do you think looks better?

We seem to keep having problems and I have not told you about all of them. Here's one. Dave had this all up and wired about three weeks ago. Well, part of the panel didn't work. So, instead of unwiring it and taking it back to the store, I called the company. The guy was very nice, said he'd ship the panel two day air so we'd get it quickly. He also said he'd e-mail me verifying what he said. After a week went by, I e-mailed him. The panel had not been shipped. After another week, I e-mailed him again. About two hours later I get an "out of office" automatic response. So Dave said he'd give it a day or two and then take it back down and take it back to the store. Last Thursday, while I was gone for the day, he took it down. When I got home, of course, the panel was on our front step. I immediately called Dave and told him not to take it down. He, of course, had just taken it down about an hour before my call.

So now he is putting it back together. AND yesterday, the company came out to dig for our permanent electricity and I got a phone call saying they hit a water line! What? How can they hit a water line when we do not have water yet? The man said, "well, they did and water is going everywhere." Geeesh. So, I called Dave at work, he took off of work immediately and headed for the house. Apparently there was a water line from the flowing well
to the OLD house that was there previous to us buying this property.
So now, Dave has to finish the wiring, cap off the water line, and fix the drainage tile that was installed last summer because they also ran over it and smashed it.

We have a mess.

Dave, trying to open drainage tile.

Stressed & Depressed!
I think we are giving up on the May 1 deadline to move into the basement.
